It is the fall of 1942 and we have expanded the newspapers so that this page is now obsolete!

Our world today, the 31st of March 1942, has a number of major events in process:

Western Europe:

Germany, Spain and Italy continue to struggle with the Allied powers for control of the Iberian Peninsula, finally it is the Axis who appear to be gaining the upper hand as the allies loose their holdings in the west.

As winter turns to spring the allied and axis air forces start to hammer at each other over the coat of the France and the Lowlands.

Eastern Europe:

With the Balkans now firmly in Axis hands the Italians have moved against Greece, making good initial gains, but now hampered by severe weather conditions.  Amphibious operations abound, although the attack upon Crete proves a disaster for the Italians, with over 35,000 men lost.

Russian forces prepare for the German spring offensive with massed defensive positions appearing along the whole front, Leningrad has fallen to the Germans and the southern Dneipr has become a fortified line.  March sees the first tentative advances by the German Army in the north and centre.

Africa:

The British hold total dominance in Africa and the Mediterranean, Italy has withdrawn to Europe.

Indo-China:

The Japanese landings in Haiphong are terminated and the Imperial Navy pulls out the Army and Marine units, leaving the Allies with their first victory in Asia.

China:

Japanese forces look to consolidate their holds as they move troops on mass to face the Russian advance in Manchuria, still the KMT sits.

Manchuria:

Russia continues to carve up the Japanese troops in Korea and central Manchuria as the Japanese start to move support into the region, but can not effect a hold of the Russian advances.

Atlantic Ocean:

British trade continues to suffer at the hands of the German u-boats, German subs now believed to be operational off Africa and in the Northern Atlantic.

Pacific Ocean:

Japanese forces have occupied Rabaul as the Allies ready for possible aggression against the Australian mainland.
